Less than 16 days till HAMMERDOWN
Fast approaching is Western Australia's premier Super Sedan event the Barrick Kanowna Goldrush Hammerdown at Esperance Speedway on March 28th & Kalgoorlie Speedway on March 29th, 2008.
Already hailed as one of the must go to Super Sedan events in Australia, the Barrick Kanowna Goldrush Hammerdown is set to blast off in less than 16 days.
the Barrick Kanowna Goldrush Hammerdown was conceived to increase the profile of super sedans in Western Australia on a National level.
The brainchild of Esperance driver Trevor Bale & Kalgoorlie based Super sedan owner Frank Bawdon who together with Brian (Bear) Chalmers from BCM Motorsport Marketing have teamed up to become the driving force behind this event.
The traditional meeting forms part of the yearly series conducted by the Speedway Sedan Racing Club (SSRC) for super sedans.
With the 2008 Super Sedan National title being conducted at Mildura on the weekend following the WA long weekend traditionally reserved for the event, the SSRC undertook the decision to withdraw the meeting from the advertised calendar to ensure that drivers traveling to contest the National title were provided the best opportunity to prepare ahead of the long haul to Mildura.
Enter the HAMMERDOWN. The boys decided that a serious event was needed to finish the season with a bang and the preparations began. The dates were chosen to maximize the attraction to drivers from the eastern states with both Kwinana Motorplex and Albany Speedways holding meetings on Easter Saturday and Sunday and only 5 days before the “Goldrush HAMMERDOWN Invitational”
A great holiday for those wanting to mix Sightseeing, Fishing & Racing.
With the support of the presidents of both the Esperance and Kalgoorlie speedways and the untiring efforts of the promotion team the event was pulled together and launched in less than a week.
Some of the interstate drivers already confirmed & nominated for the Hammerdown include, Current Victorian champion Lucas Roberts, Victorian young gun Ash Bergmier, Former National Champion Darren Kane, New South Wales Veteran Paddy Ward, NSW rookie sensation Lachlan Onley, South Australian Bad boy Dave Gartner & SA #2 Dan Miller.
Put that together with 22 WA locals like Bawdon, Bale, Giancola, Aylett, Shore, Higgs & Brook this is going to be one of the toughest fought Super Sedan events in the west.
The Hammerdown is set as a great time event with fishing, fun, & racing the perfect weekend away for the teams.
